"Friendship Truck" was on democracy watch in Ankara

The “Friendship Truck” that set off on August 4 to meet with the 2016 Turkish Summer School students and had its first stop in Samsun, came to Ankara and joined the Democracy Watch held at the July 15 Kızılay Democracy Square in the capital Ankara. President of the Yunus Emre Institute Prof. Dr. Şeref Ateş was too with the Turkish Summer School students keeping the democracy watch in Ankara.

One of the Turkish Summer School students who came from Palestine, Kevser Mahmud, and Prof. Ateş gave a brief speech on the stage. Kevser Mahmud said she had brought greetings from Palestine, where Muslims were under oppression.

In his speech President of the Yunus Emre Institute Prof. Dr. Şeref Ateş said: “Beautiful people of Ankara. As long as you have this spirit, this flag shall never be lowered! Turkish people wrote history for the entire world on July 15. On that night, these people disrupted that traitorous plot. On that night, they came onto us with their tanks and cannons to scare and bully the people away but they could not break down the faithful youth of Ankara, of Istanbul. We saw that night that when we have faith, God stands with us, and on the next morning the entire world saw that this flag would never be hauled down again; national will and independence shall forever prevail on these lands.

Our leader, our President expressed his resentment to all heads of state who did not congratulate us, who did not wish us well after July 16. But our people and all the peoples of the world should know this: after this failed coup attempt, these young people who are coming from 46 different countries are on this stage today to show that they are standing by us, by you! We welcome and commend them. I also would like to use this opportunity to invite all people of Ankara to the program we will be holding, together with these young people, in Istanbul on the 27th of this month to commemorate our martyrs.”
